Sugar Art
After burning
hands by pulling sugar in the class, my
heart started searching the connection between the art of sugar sculpture and
Indians. Voilà ! ‘Javvu Mittai/Bombay Mittai ‘ is a vanishing profession
in India. Most of our south indian Kids
would have eaten the Javvu Mittai/Bombay Mittai and it is Street candy that attracts
Kids. The seller customizes your desired
shape by pulling sugar J
The Sugar
art is worth learning in France and it’s the other way round in India as we are
pushed to choose revenue generating professions than our desired professions or
following your passion. The following video explains how Sugar Art is
considered in South of India and am an Indian studying similar Sugar techniques
in France.
Would I
be bothered to learn Sugar Art in India ?
NO.
Will I
visit a Javvu Mittai/Bombay Mittai person when I go back home ? YES.
After all, now I know, how is it when you are passionate about Arts
and your dream profession.
We wore
so many gloves to pull Sugar and burnt fingers.
But the Javvu Mittai/Bombay Mittai person pulls in bare hands. Is it passion or ignorance about
safety ? May be both. My Chef Instructor is a world Champion in
Sugar Pulling. I can imagine so many
such hidden or burins Champions in many economically challenged countries due
to the lack of resources to evolve or lack of Just money to move forward.
When I
was young, my sister wanted to
study Cuisine and our Dad showed her our
home kitchen to Just start cooking and learn at home. That made me to stop
further thinking about pursuing studies about Kitchen.
However, when you are passionate, you Just cant escape from thinking of
reaching your goal.
I am
Lucky to follow my dreams and changé my career when I am 28. Was it an easy
move ? Hell non ! But,
it’s possible. One week of learning
Sugar pulled more than Just à culture shock between India and France as far as Arts are concerned.
A Bientot!
