Chocolatier Stage

That heart pounding moment when you know you just lost your mobile and then a next minute relief when you just see it around! You know what I mean :P That is exactly how it feels during your internship when you are about to drop a tray of bonbons and just saved that embarrassing moment . The hormone rush when your Chef says ‘Attention’ (I mean a French Chef). These are all part and parcel of a pastry or chocolate internship. When you are an international student in France, the stress for internship shoots up because of  the language, culture and more. I was informed about bullying, and generally Asians suffer in internship as we look different from French or any westerner. I took a deep breathe with all these alarms and started my internship.
My room that my friends are jealous about. FYI: It is next to a small lake and 2 dogs to play with :D
It is gonna be 3 weeks and so far there are only green ticks in my list with my internship. Well, the first tick mark is for providing me a lodgement gratuit (Free accommodation). Now, this isn’t common in France . Many say I am lucky and that feels good :D . Second tick is for ego-free people at work. Everyone at work help each other and ask when they need anything. Third tick is for my Chef (who is very humble and asks me to call by his name and not Chef J). Fourth tick is for letting me to do all tasks with confidence and trust. Fifth tick is for giving me all I wanted from an internship. Now , how did I get such a good place when I don’t really speak good French and never seen this city before? It is partially feeling positive and also the way you approach during your internship search. Below is the 5 tips to help you make the internship phase a better experience. Bon Chance :D

1.       Learn the language: This would be the first answer if you search online to find a job in France, live in France and enjoy France. So , that is the thumb rule. I bought Alter Ego French book and completed A2 (level 2 ) in 5 months. It takes just practice.
2.       Google: Research a lot about your desired internship place. Follow their updates in social media. This would help in talking to them about your interest in joining them as an intern. When they ask why you wanna join us, you can connect dots with their contemporary achievements, events and more.
3.       Introduction mail: This is from my personal experience. When the internship company doesn’t even know you and when you are an International student with average French, it is obligatoire (Mandatory) to send an introduction mail with little about your origin, work history and blah blah blah. This would break the ice and creates a comfort zone and sometimes common topics to discuss. My internship Boss and I speak about India as she knows about the country J So you never know how it will help but it will J
4.        Motivation letter: In case you live in the same city or the nearby city, try to drop by and meet the Chef in person and submit your profile with HANDWRITTEN motivation letter. It is very healthy to use a handwritten motivation letter in France and French teacher always emphasizes it.
5.       Smile: Many a times, it takes more than few attempts to get an internship. But nevertheless your smile that no one can steal is one of the ways to success. Be positive and keep trying J

It would not be complete and appropriate if I don’t mention where I am interning J It is a place filled with nature near Nantes called as Saint-luce-Sur-Loire. I am sure you would wanna intern or work here as this place is just picture perfect and did I mention that it is one of the best places to write blogs like this as it is very calm and composed ? It is called CARLI – NANTES and they are very good to work with J

Note: I use some French words in the blog as it is one of the side effects of learning the language :P
