Fitness and Pastries
How did I lose 2 kilos by waking up to croissants and Pain au chocolat in France? I forgot the myfitnesspal.com and my Zumba fitness for a while and still managed to shed some kilos. Not bad huh? I was wanting to write that fitness and pastries are poles apart but then I was wrong. They don’t get along well like water and oil but it is doable to be fit and to be a pastry student/chef. This has become one of the inevitable questions while interviewing the celebrity pastry chefs nowadays ‘How are you fit though you eat pastries every day?’ Well, it is hard yet possible. Thanks to Zumba fitness as I dance my way out to be fit. The good thing about learning pastries in Europe/France is that you walk a lot than you do in countries like India in everyday life. I walk 40 minutes every day and don’t miss my croissants as well :P
After 2 months of settling down with pastry school, new apartment, I kick started my Zumba thrice in a week and that’s it. I can feel my flabs reducing. It doesn’t sweat a lot like India when you work out here in France in the beginning and that’s normal due to the humidity but you do burn calories. These are my ways to be fit while making/eating pastries everyday .
• Drinking water as the first thing in the morning (My Dad’s tip :) )
• Explore the city you live here by walking more and walking less
• Eat fruits everyday before your meal/dinner as that eventually reduces the carb intake
• Workout (Zumba/cardio) thrice in a week.
All said and done, it takes lotta efforts to be consistent in doing all the above. I miss them at times but pick it up and move on as these tend to happen. Surprisingly, all my pastry chefs in the school are fit :P That surely motivates me and hopefully you to be fit. This is an ongoing process as long as we stay with pastries. However, you get to eat fresh pastries out of the oven and still be fit through the workouts. That kinda makes me feel better to be in this profession.
Few of my classmates joined my Zumba session this week and felt happy about burning some fat. Group exercises also motivate us and lets us push the boundaries. When you are running out of time or feeling tired after standing for several hours in the pastry kitchen a quickie workout would be 30 squats and 30 pushups for a day to feel that you didn’t really skipped the workout for the day. All you need is a carpet floor which is very common in France or a yoga mat .That reminds me of the cheaper yoga mats you get to buy online here in France :P
All said and done, working out for 3 days and skipping it for weeks is normal and all we gotta do is pull ourselves back into the track on someday or the other :)
